FLUGFELAG ISLANDS C47 TF-ISB
Painted by Gerry McLaughlin
from an original by Marcel Ritzema and
Alexander Schmidt.

Another repaint of Marcel Ritzema and Alexander Schmidt's DC3. I always liked Icelandair's
1960's colour scheme and this DC3 (sorry, C47) looks particularly smart in it. Incidentally,
the Flugfelag Islands are not a group of islands. I believe that 'Flugfelag' is Icelandic
for Airways or Airlines and 'Island' is Icelandic for Iceland - so this aircraft actually
says 'Iceland Airways' on the side. (Icelanders feel free to correct me on this if I'm
wrong!).
This aircraft first flew (for the USAAF) in July 1943, but within a month it had gone to
512 Squadron, RAF therefore becoming a Dakota III. It stayed with them until 1946. Later it
was used by Scottish Airways,Sivewright Airways (heard of them?) and BEA, before going to
Icelandair and taking up the name 'Gunnfaxi' Its C of A finally expired in January 1979.

I've fitted a modified AIR file which makes DC3s more steerable on the ground. (Sorry, but
I've lost my original download, so I can't credit the person who carried out the modification
since I don't know his name) If you don't like it, because it can make the plane bounce a
bit when you try to turn sharply, just delete the AIR file and re-name the Orig. Air file to
AIR file instead. That will make it like a normal FS DC3 - ie fairly unsteerable on the ground!
I originally painted this aircraft a slightly darker shade of blue, which I think was more like
the real Icelandair colours. The difference is rather small, but I like things to be as correct
as possible. However this first colour didn't work in Hong Kong and Macau (it showed as green).
so I had to change it. However, the real aircraft probably never visited Hong Kong or Macau so
unless you decide to do so in FS98 or FS2000, you can, if you prefer, use the set of texture files
marked 'texture-orig.' Just re-name that folder 'texture' after removing the file already called
'texture' and see if you can spot the difference! These things are so complicated - if you make a
mess of the whole thing, just download it again and forget you ever read this.

There are lots of great panels for the DC3/C47 - and excellent sound files -
make sure you download them to add to your flying pleasure.

CREDITS

Marcel Ritzema and Alexander Schmidt and John Kelley who did the original DC3 model which
this one is based on.
Now read the other textfiles to find out about installing the aircraft, and all the legal
stuff.

Just in case you can't be bothered to read the legal stuff - everything is somebody's
copyright, so don't sell this plane or put it on any software package or upload it to any
server who makes any sort of charge for downloading.
